Building on the approach I first explored in Senses Study 01 (White), I revisited the technique with a fresh foundation: a vibrant gold base layer. This shift introduced a warmer, more reflective quality to the work, while maintaining the dynamic, graffiti-inspired spirit that defines the series. I began by prepping the canvas with gold spray paint, allowing it to cure fully before applying 3D-printed templates to mask selected areas and layer bold black sprays over the exposed sections in this second Senses Spray Paint Study.

The process remained instinctive and fluid — moving the templates slightly after each spray to create soft blurring and spatial distortion. While the black layer was still wet, I added a white spray, encouraging the colours to bleed and merge naturally. A second partial black layer followed, deepening the layered, shifting textures.

Random splatters and paint bursts were deliberately introduced to enhance the sense of urgency, echoing the rapid energy of street art, yet contrasting sharply with the mindful, sensory themes at the heart of the project. This tension — between speed and reflection, chaos and awareness — is central to the Senses series, and it evolves here with a new richness brought by the luminous gold underlay.

Throughout the piece, I deliberately employed rapid, gestural spray techniques, including splatters and scattered paint bursts, to evoke a sense of chaotic urgency. These marks amplified the contrast between speed and deliberation, energy and control — a core theme of the Senses project.
