Description

Senses Calpe 01 is a conceptual view of Calpe ad a location based artwork, it explores the layered identity of Calpe through the pairing LOOK / SEE.

The surface is constructed using impressions from old fishing nets, referencing the town’s fishing history and its enduring connection to the Mediterranean Sea. Fields of blue represent water, movement, depth and even small fish or their scales. Meanwhile the yellow glow above suggests the coastal sun. Red and yellow accents refer to both the Spanish and Valencian flags, embedding the artwork within its cultural and regional context.

Fragments of the city logo emerge only faintly through the composition, partially hidden within layers of texture and gesture. These elements appear gradually, inviting a slower form of observation.

The text Look&See reflects the experience of Calpe itself. Visitors look at the beaches, the boulevard and the atmosphere of a modern tourist destination, while the work encourages the viewer to see the history, labour and identity that continue to exist beneath the surface.
