Friends
Two men, hand on shoulder, with the particular ease of people who have known each other long enough to show their relation. Istanbul is a city of friendships conducted in public: the tea house, the street corner, the bench in the square. The friendship is the point. The location is wherever the friends happen to be.

I was slightly surprised to see the magazines Burda and Hustler on the stands here. The first with sewing patterns for woman, the second with ‘spicy pictures’ for men. Both very western publications in a city that, for me at least, did not fit the vibe of this city.
