Walking Towards the Mural
Under a yellow awning a woman with a golden backpack walks past an older woman coming the other way. A taxi waits on the tram rails, and at the far end of the street a mural grows bigger as I walk towards it. Cars line the kerb, and on a lamp post a blue voting banner and a parking sign complement each other and the grey-blue sky in a quiet palette of blues. Up close, Shepard Fairey’s Peace Guard shows a woman with a flower in her rifle, a nod to the Carnation Revolution of 1974.
