Senses Spray paint Study White

Description

Inspired by the spontaneity and raw energy of graffiti, I decided to experiment with spray paint on canvas, drawing inspiration from the sensory experiences we encounter daily. To start, I prepped the canvas by spraying it white and allowing it to cure. I then incorporated 3D-printed templates, using them to mask sections of the white base layer before spraying a bold black layer over the exposed areas for this Senses spray paint study

The process became a dynamic dance between the layers. I slightly shifted the templates between sprays, and while the black layer was still wet, I added a layer of white, letting the colours blend and intermingle organically. This blending effect created a sense of movement and fluidity across the canvas. After the white layer, I again applied a partial black layer, ensuring the previous one had not fully dried, which resulted in a deeper interplay of shades and tones.

At every stage, I deliberately shifted the position of the templates, adding a spatial, blurred effect to the text that echoed the transitory nature of the street art style. To intensify the sense of urgency and motion, I employed various spray techniques, splattering the surface with erratic paint blobs. This chaotic, rapid application mimicked the fast-paced creation process often associated with graffiti, making each piece feel alive with the rush of its creation.

The rushed feeling of the work is in stark contrast with the call for awareness and the mindful call to action for the viewer. Expressing the main theme of the senses project.
