The Berlin wall stood from 1961 to 1989. The wall was a guarded concrete barrier that encircled West Berlin separating it from the Deutsche Demokratische Republik (DDR) and separating it from East Berlin. The wall was built to prevent people from leaving the Soviet controlled area and was part of the so called iron-curtain. Nowadays the wall is gone and the few sections that remain have become a tourist attraction or place of remembrance. It also reminds us of the brutal split of Germany that lasted until the reunification on the 3rd of October 1990.
The now almost completely disappeared wall was a 155 Km long construction that I walked along for about 11 Kilometer from Treptow to Moabit end of June 2023 taking almost 1000 pictures to document the life in the city today. This is part of that story.
