Senses Lights, Illuminated Conceptual wall sculptures

Senses Lights is a series of six Illuminated Conceptual Art wall sculptures, each built around one of the word pairs at the heart of the Senses Project: HEAR & LISTEN, LOOK & SEE, SMELL & SCENT, TASTE & SAVOUR, TOUCH & FEEL, LEARN & KNOW.

Each work takes its two, closely related yet meaningfully distinct words and fuses them into a single 3D-printed, LED-illuminated typographic form. The letterforms interlock and collapse into one another, so that the two ideas must be disentangled before they can be compared. That act of disentangling is the work.

The light is not decorative. In each piece, the cold white LED glow extends beyond the letterforms into the surrounding wall, creating an immediate presence, an optical pull that arrives before the words are read, before any meaning is formed. You see the work before you understand it. You encounter it before you interpret it. This sequence, repeated across all six sculptures, mirrors the gap each word pair describes.

Hearing is not the same as listening. Looking is not the same as seeing. Touching is not the same as feeling. The differences are small, and that is precisely the point, small differences in attention, in effort, in intention, that produce entirely different experiences of the world.

Together the six works ask a single underlying question, applied six different ways. The question is to go a level deeper, think further, look ahead. There are no wrong answers.
