Senses Lights – Taste & Savour

Taste comes close, you need to physically place an object in your mouth before you can taste. This is an act of trust. Tasting in itself is interesting. To detect all flavours can be a game of discovery. The act of truly absorbing the taste is savouring, getting enjoyment out of the flavours, connecting the taste to existing experiences, reflecting what you sense.

Description

Senses Lights is a series of six Illuminated Conceptual Art wall sculptures, each built around one of the word pairs at the heart of the Senses Project: HEAR&LISTEN, LOOK&SEE, SMELL&SCENT, TASTE&SAVOUR, TOUCH&FEEL, LEARN&KNOW.

The six works are ordered deliberately, from the most external sense to the most internal. The series begins with hearing, which reaches us from the world at a distance, and ends with learning, which is a process that happens entirely within. Moving through the series is moving inward.

Consistent with Steit’s broader practice, the work prioritises idea over spectacle. All of the the six works use the same structure, the different senses used have different emotional responses. The request is to go a level deeper, think further, look ahead. There are no wrong answers.
