Tokyo Shibuya Station
Where almost 3 million people commute every day
The Story of Tokyo Shibuya Station is told through a captivating collection of photo collages, featuring images taken in 1994 across 42 pages. Each page tells its own unique story, but when combined, they form a comprehensive narrative that spans both time and distance, offering a visual journey through one of Tokyo’s most iconic and bustling districts.
This collection, which was originally conceived as a journey through place, has now evolved into a story of both place and time. Through this lens, I’ve discovered that many of the features captured in these 1994 photographs are still visible today, although some have been modernised, while others retain their original charm. While some aspects of Shibuya Station have disappeared entirely, replaced by newer developments, many familiar elements continue to define the station’s landscape, reflecting the ever-changing yet enduring nature of the city.
As you explore this journey, you’ll encounter the blend of old and new—a visual testimony to how Shibuya has evolved over the past 25 years. The photos not only capture the station’s transformation but also highlight how its rich history and vibrant atmosphere have been preserved, offering a fascinating contrast between the past and the present.
