Senses – Graffiti

The contrast between graffiti and the senses.

The Graffiti series started while I was making the Senses Mythologies – Extended early 2025. I was spray-painting the 3D printed texts for that series in black and white and noticed the shape left on the board after removing the texts. I decided to make three studies using this technique of masking out areas. The first study is the Study White, followed by the Study Gold and after my youngest daughter said she would like to see one with colours, the Study Colour. The discrepancy between the spontaneous. impromptu nature of graffiti and the quiet reflection of the senses that I invite for me is very interesting to explore further. What binds the two is emotion. Graffiti is often a form of protest, rebellion, anti-establishment driven calling upon emotions. The deeper experiencing of the senses evoke emotions binding the two.

Location Based work

During my stay in Derbyshire in the summer of 2025 I decided to make a graffiti style work that had a relationship to the place I was in. This became the Derbyshire and Derbyshire 2. As I was also in the UK I used the Union Jack to make a canvas that reflects on the British Empire, This started a small series where I make works that are made on the location they refer to. Examples are Cologne 1 & 2, Hopton Hall and a number of smaller works.
